Up by the river….I choose to notice the intention of an action vs. the dogmatic ways the action has been approached…thus I:

Look Up when I pray

Look In before I look out

Go to Meet You vs. come to meet you

Go Up the Street vs. go down the street

Park in the Driveway vs drive on the parkway

Get Up for the down stroke!

My dear friend Dr. George Clinton opened a door to cultural consciousness when he led his chorus and revolutionary band to sing, “…the bigger the headache, the bigger the pill!” He followed this opening lyric with “they call ME the BIG pill,” which was misinterpreted by many to be a self-reflective, boastful, ego laden statement….what I learned from the statement was “BE YOUR OWN PILL….for the thrill of a lifetime!” From this I gained the understanding that self love and self confidence can balance the waves of time and empower me to rise vs. fall.

Bobby Womack sang about Harry Hippy, whose directive was that nobody wants to help you with your head hung down…these kernels of wisdom, masterfully alinged with hypnotic rhythmns, merged with my father’s teachings to walk with my hands by my side instead of in my pockets prompted me to craft a mantra of look up, so I can be up and to this moment I sing and dance alongside as well as inside of this tune.
